Korea University Press was founded in March, 1956 to contribute to accomplishing the high-standard education and academic success. It had acquired a credit for its pivotal function as a university press with expansion of its divisions and the staff in July, 1959 and they had a great success in organizing the management system and in raising a fund for publication objectives. They had established a financial-aid system in 1972 to help leading professors and researchers publish their scholarly researches and periodicals for educational objectives and have continued publishing meritorious work that advances academic achievements. In addition, they had been able to establish a solid financial ground assisted by Anam Corporation and Young-An Headgear Corporation in 1960s. The press had published more than 700 titles which mainly focus on academic purposes and many of them had won the high praise from many people for their outstanding academic standards and Yomsangsup Novel Terminology Dictionary had earned the Baeksang Publication Award. This book was published in 1997 and it accounts for a major contribution to proving excellent accomplishments of the university press along with The Dictionary of Korean Poetic Words, Korea Contemporary Novels Terminology Dictionary, and Lee Kwang-Soo Literary Dictionary.

In the turn of the century, the press has been seeking the better ways to promote the press’s chief task for creative and effective publication, fulfilling their common commitments to the original sprit. University press publishing involves more than just manufacturing a book or journal, it raises a fund for publishing intellectual and educational materials for readers in our community and also provided recommendable books’ list selected by the Publication Planning Committee. As a part of this, they recently published The Scent of Western Literature which provides readers with various memorable works of western literature translated for the benefit of Korean readers. The Press continues to encourage scholars, researchers, the KU faculty and other professionals in the community to publish works that advance scholarly research and educational objectives. Recently, the press has set up its website(www.kupress.com) to assist readers or consumers with a fast, efficient, and fun way to buy books, along with various other services and it is equipped with on-line purchase system to browse other books.
