Korea University Press was founded in March, 1956 to contribute to accomplishing the high-standard education and academic success. It had acquired a credit for its pivotal function as a university press with expansion of its divisions and the staff in July, 1959 and they had a great success in organizing the management system and in raising a fund for publication objectives. They had established a financial-aid system in 1972 to help leading professors and researchers publish their scholarly researches and periodicals for educational objectives and have continued publishing meritorious work that advances academic achievements. In addition, they had been able to establish a solid financial ground assisted by Anam Corporation and Young-An Headgear Corporation in 1960s. The press had published more than 700 titles which mainly focus on academic purposes and many of them had won the high praise from many people for their outstanding academic standards and Yomsangsup Novel Terminology Dictionary had earned the Baeksang Publication Award. This book was published in 1997 and it accounts for a major contribution to proving excellent accomplishments of the university press along with The Dictionary of Korean Poetic Words, Korea Contemporary Novels Terminology Dictionary, and Lee Kwang-Soo Literary Dictionary.
The Korea University Press is aiming to open a new 60 years under the banner of “Innovation of Publishing Culture with the Times and the Public,” taking the 60-year-old tradition as a stepping stone. We will act as a bridge between universities and society by planning and publishing not only professional academic books or textbook concept books but also the books that can be secured by general cultural readers.
